




Preston Street is an arterial road in the City’s near west end. It is the in heart of Ottawa’s Little Italy and serves as the connection between Dow’s Lake and LeBreton Flats. Preston Street was a three year; five phase project originally, intended to improve the condition of the street, water system and to make improvements to the sewer system to prevent basement flooding. Specifically, the work required includes: |
· Implementation of the streetscaping study that was completed last year, including the construction of new curbs and wider sidewalks. To decrease the impact on the local businesses the City of Ottawa decreased the project to a two year project and kept the five phases. Taggart Construction successfully completed Contract ISB09-5003 (Spruce – Laurel), one of the two phases that were scheduled for last |
the three phases scheduled for this construction season, Albert – Spruce and Beech - Carling. Contract ISB09-5004 (Albert – Spruce) includes the construction of 3 major Storm Maintenance holes over the existing 1500mm diameter Brick sewer and 200m of new 525mm diameter sanitary sewer. Contract ISB09-5002 (Beech – Carling) includes removing 5200 m3 of rock to accommodate the install of 350m of 1500mm diameter Combine Sewer, at a depth of 5m. Both projects will be completed fall 2009. |
