Agility And Quality For Sewage Treatment Enhancements

As part of the City of Ottawa's plans to improve waste and sewage disposal in western Kanata, Taggart Construction Limited was brought in to install new forcemains to carry effluent nearly four kilometres, and to complete major aspects of the construction of a new pump station.

Going The Distance

For the forcemains, we placed +3,500 metres of twin HDPE pipe and +400 metres of gravity sewer as well as rock, earth and directional drilled bores. For the pump station, we excavated and backfilled a wet well and installed a dewatering system, building foundations, yard piping and a secant central shoring shaft 21 metres in diameter and 20 metres deep. We also protected two adjacent buildings with interlocked sheet piling, tie-backs, walers and struts.

Staying On Track While Handling The Unforeseen

Most large construction projects run into unforeseen circumstances. We pride ourselves on being flexible when scope needs to be adjusted. In this case, several forcemains were re-routed to avoid existing utilities, and additional erosion and sediment controls were required beyond the original project scope. We addressed these shifting requirements with flexibility, completing the project within the existing timeline.
